Database Engineer

This position is responsible for all facets of database engineering, design, documentation, implementation, capacity planning, monitoring, and automation.  Enforces standards and interfaces with infrastructure team, network team, application owners and vendors. Also securing systems by establishing and enforcing defined security policies.

Job Requirements
  •  Design and implement databases solutions and chalking out road-map for provisioning databases and database related technologies
  • Develop best practices in IT operations in an always-up and always-available service environment. Work closely with development teams to automate and streamline their processes
  • Participate in architectural and design meetings. Evaluate latest trends and conduct POC’s on latest database technologies
  • Collaborate with architecture, development and operations teams to design and implement prototypes showcasing latest in open source and/or proprietary technologies
  • Use wide variety of open source technologies and cloud services to automate processes and create tools for use by release team for deployments
  • Work with external vendors to implement new products and services, ensure we stay current on updates, report defects and follow through on fixes. Install, configure and maintain proprietary and open source software products. Share knowledge within the team with seminars and presentations
  • Capable of quickly troubleshooting complex problems, understanding dependencies and deducing the root cause of issues
           
Qualifications:              
  •  BS in Computer Science or a technical field.
  • Must have Experience in opensource database performance tuning, backup & recovery procedures, High availability (Clustering, Database Mirroring, Log Shipping, Always-on availability groups)
  • Experience working with open source database technologies like MYSQL, PostgreSQL, NoSQL, MongoDB, Cassandra
  • Dev Ops Experience
  • Database modelling and design
  • Advanced coding and performance tuning skills desired
  • Strong knowledge of how database technologies interact and complement each other.
  • Contribution to open source project is highly desired
  • User of automation tools like CHEF, Rundeck
  • Scripting experience in Power shell, Python, Perl and/or windows shell
